St. Thomas at a Glance
The city of St. Thomas is considered to be part of Greater London
and is located in the heart of southwestern Ontario,
approximately half way between Detroit
to the west and Toronto on the
east. This bustling city is also known as the railway capital of Canada
due to the current 26 railway lines that channel through the city limits. Elgin
County Railway Museum offers an option for visitors to gain insight and knowledge
into the extensive history of railway in the area. Although St Thomas has a reservoir,
just a five-minute drive south will bring residents and visitors alike to Lake
Erie. This great lake is the largest body of water in close proximity and
can be used for public swimming, recreation and boating. St Thomas, although a
relatively small city, offers a well-developed art and theatre scene. The Princess
Adventure Playhouse acts as a venue for Elgin
Theatre Guild performances. Elgin
Public Art Centre is just one of the many gallery and art centres that attract
art enthusiasts from the area.
